"Can I Be Happy, Now? II" is the second of a diptych painting set: engaging with the emotion of hoping for happiness despite depressive circumstances. "Is this healing progress something I can trust?" was a question often asked in recovering from topical steroid addiction and withdrawal syndrome. It often was impossible to set goals. Unpredictable setbacks in health would torpedo a schedule that I found joy in, but had to let go to prioritize health needs. When good things came about, it became difficult to trust the moment and length of time before what felt like the rug getting pulled out again. This set rests in the dichotomy of happiness and grieving in the same moment.
